1951 ~ 2019

Latena was born on March 30th, 1951 in Anderson, SC to Dolores Wilson Harbin and Walter Herman Moore. She attended a 3-room rural school in Starr, SC. Her Paternal Grandparents, John and Elizabeth Moore lived on a farm in Elberton, GA. She loved to visit the farm and secured her affections for nature and family in those carefree days. On Saturdays Latena and her sister would go to Cold Water Creek and spend the day swimming and launching from a rope swing. Latena’s Maternal Grandparents, John & Gladys Wilson, also lived on a farm in Belton, SC. As a teenager, Latena lived on Lake Hartwell, a well-known attraction in Upstate SC. Her first car was a 1966 green Mustang and was a true love that well represented her adventurous spirit.

Colorado became her home in the early 1980’s when she moved here to raise her family. She had many loves that included interior design, wine, reading, music, dancing, wildlife, driving in the mountains, gardening, and trips to Santa Fe. But anyone who knew Latena knew her greatest passion was her relationships. She loved spending time with her husband and soulmate Derrick, children, grandchildren, and her many close friends. She lit up any room she walked into and would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Latena leaves behind a tremendous legacy of love and gratitude.

Latena is survived by her husband, Derrick Norwood of Woodland Park; her mother Delores Harbin; her children Kim (Robby) Peed of Florence, SC, Josh (Elise) Matheny of Evergreen, CO, Letina (Tony) Leix of Denver, CO and Dennis (Dana) Dykes of Panama City, FL; and her 7 grandchildren: Wyatt, Annie, Olivia, Leigha, Daven, Myla, and baby Leix coming in June; and her sisters Modina (Donald) Hall of Starr, SC and Felicia Burdette of Anderson, SC and her nephew Patrick (Kristi & Mack) Campbell.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the excellent care Latena received at Presbyterian/St. Lukes Medical Center in Denver, Rocky Mountain Cancer Center in Aurora & Colorado Springs and the Colorado Blood Cancer Institute (CBCI).
