Martha Jane (Abbott) Carter of Colorado Springs was received into the arms of the Savior on July 8th, 2025 in the presence of family. Born July 13, 1931 to Lucy J. (Davis) and William Paul Abbott in Knoxville, TN, as the youngest of 6 children she is survived by her daughter Bettyann (Carter) Davis and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Carter is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Ken, her sister Dorothy, her brothers Kenneth, Howard, Richard and Paul, her sons Joseph and David, and her daughters Linda Combs and Jane Krasikov. Mrs. Carter married Joseph Kenneth Carter December 30, 1951 after an extended courtship in Maryville TN. She attended Maryville College, Central Piedmont College and the Wilson Technical College. Mrs. Carter also attended two years of Biblical Studies in Elizabethton, TN. A loving, kind and nurturing mother, Mrs. Carter raised her children in the reverence of the Lord. Mrs. Carter acted as a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts USA in Bristol TN and she also served the church as a Bible School Teacher for both Primary age and Adult Ladies. A long time member of the church of Christ, Mrs. Carter served congregations across the country with humility and love as a ministers wife in various locations and as an Elder’s wife in Monument CO. Mrs. Carter also Worked at Univac Bristol, Smith Jr. High School and was a North Carolina licensed Child Care Provider where she continued to care for numerous children over the years. Mrs. Carter was the first woman to earn a HAM Radio operator license in Blount County TN and helped broadcast the National Bike Race at Biltmore Estate from Asheville NC. Along with her husband, Mrs. Carter was awarded the key to the City of Asheville, North Carolina for her service. When Mrs. Carter attended her 50thHigh School Reunion she was awarded “The most Children and Grandchildren” Certificate which she absolutely cherished. A woman of deep faith, her favorite Bible verse is Romans 8:28 reminding us that even in the sorrow we feel with her passing; God will work it for our good as we serve Him. Celebration of Life Services will be held Aug 1, 2025 1pm at Tri-Lakes Church of Christ, 20450 Beacon Lite Rd., Monument, CO 80132.
