Kristen Sherwood, 45, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 4, 2025.

A lifelong native of Colorado, Kristen spent much of her time immersed in its natural beauty. Her career in outdoor education reflected her passion for the environment and included roles at Cave of the Winds, as a Park Ranger for Colorado State Parks, and with Pikes Peak Community College and Leave No Trace. She also worked at the Colorado Springs Independent, where her creativity and love of storytelling found another outlet.

Kristen had a deep love for the arts, especially writing and music. She could often be found belting out the blues at local venues throughout Colorado Springs.

She loved to cook and found joy in sharing meals with others. Her green chili casserole was a family favorite, her Irish soda bread honored her heritage, and her apple pies won awards that she never stopped bragging about. Kristen joked that her gravestone should say she was a messy eater and those who knew her best can probably hear her laughing at that now.

Above all, Kristen loved being a mother to her children, Eliza Jane (13) and Declan (11). She was fiercely proud of them and poured her heart into raising them with love. She nurtured their curiosity, encouraged their sense of wonder, and shared with them the joy she found in the natural world.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Flemming and Norma Sherwood, and her father, Glenn Sherwood.

She is survived by her children, Eliza Jane and Declan Kubina; her mother, Taylor Richardson; her siblings, Lauren Kimball, Brandon Yearout, and Chaynee Ford; and many extended family and friends who loved her deeply.

In lieu of flowers, an Amazon wish list has been created with gift cards for experiences to bring moments of joy to her children.

Kristen will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her sharp sense of humor, and the way she lit up a room with her stories, her music, and the warmth of her presence. Her love, creativity, and generous heart will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
