Obituary of Rev. Peter Lee Swan
Rev. Peter Lee Swan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Swan, was born in Portland Maine on August 25,
- He was baptized, confirmed and worshipped at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook,
Maine.
Peter graduated from Westbrook High School in 1957. He enrolled in St. Olaf College, Northfield
Minnesota in 1957 and was a student there until 1959. He transferred to Dana College, Blair
Nebraska, and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. In the summer of 1961 he attended
the University of Maine for a study in Sociology and Political Science.
In June of 1962 he married Barbara Jean Annis of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Their marriage has been
blessed with 4 children: Timothy (1963), Paul(1966), Julie (1970) and Stephen(1979).
Peter served a one year internship at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Baltimore Maryland and
attended a 12 week graduate course for Clinical Pastoral Training in Boston 1964.
On May 25, 1966 he graduated Wartburg Theological Seminary with a Bachelor of Divinity Degree.
Later on May 18, 1975 he graduated from New York Theological Seminary with a Master of Sacred
Theology in Pastoral Counseling.
He served at:
St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sunman, Indiana
Calvary Lutheran Church, Kent Ohio
Chaplain Edward Shaw Hospital, Canton Ohio
Campground Ministry at three state parks in PA
Trinity Lutheran Church, Philadelphia, PA
Oceanside Lutheran Church, Oceanside, NY
Counseled in New York for those affected by 9/11
He retired in December 2006 and joined First Lutheran Church in 2007 which was located in
Colorado Springs Colorado where he resided until his death on May 3, 2025
Survivors are his wife Barbara, his children Tim, Paul, Julie and Stephen and grandchildren Carter,
Kevin, Landon and Ryan.
Interment and Memorial service will be at First Lutheran Church on Cascade Ave. on May 27th at
1:00 P.M
