Sylvia A. Goodale age 83 passed away with her daughter by her side at her home in Forest Ridge Senior Living in Woodland Park, Colorado on September 22, 2020. Sylvia was born was born August 6, 1937  in Keokuk, Iowa, the youngest of three children, to James and Blanche Ahern.  When she lived in Iowa and Missouri, she was proud to be one of the first female production workers at Hubingers. She had a big heart for animals, domestic or wild. She often took in sick or orphaned animals such as deer, squirrels, opossums, and even a neighbor’s pigs and nursed them back to health. Her dogs always held a special place in her heart.  Sylvia moved to Colorado Springs in the early 1980s to be near her daughter Linda and her family. She became a licensed nail technician and  volunteered at local senior centers doing manicures for the residents. Sylvia loved to cook and try new recipes with her friends at Grinde Manor where she lived for twenty-three years. She also loved going to garage sales, always on the hunt for the perfect bargain. Playing Bingo at Forest Ridge with her friends was another favorite activity.

Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Linda Hakala of Colorado Springs, granddaughter Aimee Selix (Jim) and great grandkids Ethan and Lukas, grandson James Hakala (Lauren) and great grandkids Ella and Cash, and the staff and residents at Forest Ridge Senior Living who became part of her extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents James and Blanche Ahern, her sister Mary Ann Wilkens, brother James (Jimmy) Ahern, and two infant sons Roger and Melvin Jr.

A special thanks to the staff at Forest Ridge Senior Living for the exceptional care and love given to Sylvia these past three years. Sylvia was unique, loved and will be missed but never forgotten.

In keeping with Sylvia’s wishes her ashes will be spread at a later date in a private ceremony. Those wishing to honor her life may do so by making a donation in her name to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.
