1951 ~ 2019

Larry Duren Spence of Colorado Springs passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Penrose Hospital.    Larry was born in Santa Rita, NM to James Reuben and Ida Marie Spence on July 21, 1951.     Larry was a long time resident of Colorado Springs and worked in the high technology industry as an electronic technician.   He was a former resident of Garden City, KS prior to moving to Colorado.

Larry is survived by 9 brothers and sisters – Ray Hidalgo, Garden City, KS, Grace Gonzales, Las Vegas, NM, James Spence, Garden City, KS, Eugene Spence, Pueblo, CO,  Sylvia Kowalke, Tomball, TX, John Spence, Austin, TX,  Christopher Spence, Independence, MO, Melinda Ricketts, Independence, MO and Patricia Herrera, Albuquerque, NM.     He was preceded in death by his parents James Reuben and Ida Marie Spence.

Larry was a man of many interests and talents.   He built custom PCs from scratch, raced sand rail cars, loved skiing, photography, astronomy, playing golf, camping in the mountains and panning for gold.   Life in Colorado gave him the ability to explore and enjoy all his interests.   Larry was also an animal lover, often taking in stray pets.

A private family service was held on Monday, November 25, 2019 to celebrate his life.   He was loved and will be missed by all his family and friends.      In lieu of flowers, the family asks you donate to the American Cancer Society in his name.
