Jane Anderson

1956 ~ 2019

Jane Anderson, 62, of 5757 Uncompahgre St. died at 8:46 p.m. January 2, 2019 at CU Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.  She was born April 3, 1956 in Ottumwa, IA to Thaddeus and Patricia Pierce Anderson. A graduate of Ottumwa High School, she attended Ottumwa Heights College and Marshalltown Community College. Upon completion of a Dental Assistant Degree, she moved to Colorado Springs where she lived and worked for nearly 40 years. She was retired from two employers: Hewlett-Packard and District 49 schools. Jane was also a controlling owner of the Anderson family restaurant, The Crooked Grill Co., which she helped open and operate in Colorado Springs with her brother, Terry.  She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ottumwa and Sacred Heart Church of Colorado Springs.

Jane enjoyed helping at the restaurant, eating at other restaurants, and spending time with family and friends. Jane especially enjoyed reminiscing with restaurant patrons who were from Iowa. Jane will always be remembered for her keen sense of humor and unselfish commitment to her family and friends.

Surviving are her three siblings, Tim (Sandy) Anderson of St. Augustine, FL, Kathy (Wayne) Long of Ottumwa, and Terry (Phyllis) Anderson of Colorado Springs; five nieces and nephews, Thad, Christy, Jill, Tara, and Liam.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Her body has been cremated. Memorial Mass will be held in Ottumwa at St. Patrick Catholic Church pending arrangements. A Memorial Mass at Sacred Heart in Colorado Springs is also pending.
Jane also loved spending time with her beloved dogs, of which Tucker and Lilly are surviving. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Safe Place for Pets, 1520 N. Hancock Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903.

  1. Jane was a very thoughtful and caring person. She touched many lives, and none more so than mine: may we pray she goes to heaven to be with her mother and father…with love always, Terry.

  2. I have many fond memories of Jane during her employment at School District 49. She had such a kind heart and a true love for animals. She was so funny at ties, a real hoot to be around. I will miss you but no you are in such a better place now. Rest In Peace my friend.

  3. Ellen Shapiro. Thad’s Mother-in-law

Jane had such a positive attitude during her long battle with her disease. Always in good humor when we were with her. A wonderful smile that masked the illnesses that she fought so bravely. We never heard her complain. So glad we had a chance to know her.

  4. Thank you for your friendship. Thank you for your wit and much appreciated sarcasm. I will look forward to seeing you again and laughing til our jaws are sore. I pray the lord blesses you with special wings of an angel. I’m quite sure you’ll keep him laughing too.

  5. Jane loved her family more than anything and we all loved her. She had a great sense of humor and always made us laugh. Life was not easy for Jane but she handled it with strength and grace. She was a fighter and never gave up that’s why she lived as long as she did according to her doctor’s. We miss and love you Jane.

Jane at the skate park. Everyone’s friend always there with something to share with all… advice, snacks, jokes, friendship. Fond memories…Liam and Austin driving around– Austin, “Liam, you know Jane is following us… Liam “Yes, she has been behind us for the past 10 minutes.” Tara recalling Jane at Villa Sport approaching the hot tube styling in her unique Aunt Jane swimsuit (tight fitting black spandex capris with a black muscle shirt) … Having the entire hot tube laughing with her jokes and stories. Jane, now Terry and I are going to mass in your honor and many times I think of you describing mass — you need to be dressed in sweats with a sweatband around your head to catch the sweat rolling down your face from all the genuflecting… kneeling… back up then down then Father Son and Holy Spirit genuflect kneel… standup… sit down (repeat)… I know you and I would be giggling and Terry would be serious and telling us to shape up now 🙂 Also, whenever Jane showed up with pizza AND donut holes you knew she meant business. Tucker and Lilly miss you Jane. They are very resilient and happy puppies… thanks for making them that way. They both would like to give a SHOUT OUT to Safe Place for Pets, 1520 N. Hancock Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903 and hope many of your family and friends make donations to this GREAT non-profit organization started 22 years ago by nurses. Fondly remembered, truly missed, forever in our hearts! Love always The Colorado Andersons

It has been many weeks, but the sacrifice in the way Jane lived keeps reappearing. When people were down, Jane could lift your spirit somehow and impart some kind of common sense understanding of the particular situation; a common sense thought process which soothed your heartache someway. In a challenging and irrational world, her presence was invaluable. However, in this busy world, not many people understood her heartaches and challenges well, ironically, which made Jane unique in that way. Jane was not one to tell you everything that happened to her either, which makes her sudden passing harder to understand and process. Her innate goodness was not lost on anyone though.

May I also say that Jane was the first one to tell me of Jay Anderson’s death too, which was just as hard to believe.

I want to thank everyone who attended our parents’ family funerals in the past. Your attendance meant a lot to us.

There will be a Funeral Liturgy on Friday, March 15, at 10:0 a.m. in Colorado Springs at Sacred Heart Church. A Meal of Compassion will follow in Sacred Heart Parish Center, and all family and friends are welcome. A further gathering at our house will take place as well, and all friends are welcome.

Also, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ottumwa, there will be a Funeral Mass, Rite of Committal (Committal of Cremated Remains), a Meal of Compassion, and family gathering, which the family hopes to have on June 15, but the date has not yet been solidified. Another post will be made again so check back. Thank you to everyone…sincerely….Terry
