Howard Frank Miller Jr., 91, of West Pittston, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on the morning of January 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on May 8, 1935, in West Pittston, Howard was the eldest son of Howard Frank Miller Sr. and Marjorie Lawson Marsh Miller. He was raised in West Pittston, Pennsylvania and graduated from West Pittston High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force. During his distinguished 21-year military career as a Security Policeman, he traveled the world before eventually settling in Colorado, where he dedicated another 21 years to Federal Civil Service.

Howard was a true patriot whose love for his country remained a defining part of his life. A man of many talents and interests, he served his community as the Marshal of Palmer Lake, a volunteer firefighter, a wildlife officer, and a refrigeration and air conditioning engineer. Whatever role he filled, he did so with integrity, dedication, and a strong sense of duty.

Above all, Howard was devoted to his family. He will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, quick wit, gentle spirit, and deep appreciation for the natural world. He had a special love for birds, a passion that found beautiful expression in his remarkable woodcarvings. His lifelike creations of colorful songbirds and majestic birds of prey reflected both his extraordinary craftsmanship and his profound respect for nature.

Howard is survived by his devoted and beloved wife, Teresa Cartwright-Miller; his brother Richard Miller, his children, Howard Dale Briner (Anna), Melanie Miller Meisheid (Alan), and Mandy Miller Hogle (Matthew); and his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas Watson, Christopher Watson, Kristina Levien, Brittani Moralas, Amber Scott, Shelby McPhaul, Wesley Anselmo, Austin Meisheid, Tyler Meisheid, Ryley Hogle, and Andrew Hogle, and many great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Howard F. Miller Sr, Marjorie L.Miller. And his sister Nancy J. Shive and his son Kurt Allen Miller and his daughter Vicki J. Briner. 

Howard’s legacy of service, honor, craftsmanship, and love for his family will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

He will be laid to rest at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, Co. 80925 on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. with reception immediately following at the Palmer Lake Town Hall 42 Valley Crescent, Palmer Lake, Colorado 80133
