Barbara “Barb” Pitts (née Scheurenbrand)

1945 – 2025

Barbara “Barb” Pitts, 80, May 29, 1945, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025. She was born in Mitchell, South Dakota, where she grew up and graduated from high school. The only daughter among five children, Barb shared a lively childhood with her four brothers-Tom, Ron, Don, and Gary. She cherished her close bond with her family, and is survived by her brother Ron and wife Charleen, sister in-law Ali, wife of Don and sister-in-law Marge, wife of Tom.  Along with many nieces and nephews.

After living for many years in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Barb moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 2017, where she spent her later years with her children.

Barb is also survived by her two children, Tracee and Scott, and wife Kristy  and her beloved “grand dogs,” who brought her so much joy and laughter. She enjoyed quiet moments spent reading and relaxing with her favorite television shows, especially anything on Animal Planet, which reflected her lifelong love of animals.

Barb was quite the “fashionista” when it came to clothing. Shopping with her used to make us giggle as she would pick an outfit out that is stylish and trendy, and we would ask her “ Mom, where are you going to wear that?” She didn’t typically have a plan for the outfit, and being the homebody she was, would end up wearing it around the house. She was definitely the most stylish one in the house.

Barb developed her style with the dynamic duo of her friend Trudy, where they worked together at Daytons/Macy’s for years.  The established a friendship that lasted for decades.

Barb not only had an eye for style, but also for antiques. Whether it was looking for the next Depression Glassware piece, or refurbishing an antique piece of furniture, she enjoyed making her home beautiful and welcoming. She also enjoyed quilting and embroidery.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and held her close.
