Earnest Floyd Johnson, 92, of Pueblo, Colorado, passed away on July 6, 2025. He was born on November 18, 1932, in Baca County, Colorado to Pirley LeRoy Johnson and Georgia Roberta (Poyner) Johnson Wade.

Ernie lived a vibrant life defined by hard work, skill, and a love for competition. An expert meat cutter, he spent his career at Chet’s Markets, where his craftsmanship and friendly demeanor earned him respect from colleagues and customers alike. His true passion, however,was his love for horseshoes and bowling. Ernie was a celebrated horseshoe player, winning three World Horseshoe Tournaments in his division, and several state tournaments earning a well-deserved place in the Colorado Horseshoe Hall of Fame. His enthusiasm for the game and his warm camaraderie left a lasting impact on the horseshoe community. An avid bowler, he also spent countless hours perfecting his game and building friendships on the lanes.

Ernie is survived by his second wife Phyllis Schroder, three children and their spouses, Keith (Kathy) Johnson, Alicia (Robert) Quackenbush, and Suzie (Michael) Thorpe, eight grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Ernie was preceded in death by 6 sisters and 1 brother.

Known for his competitive spirit and dry humor, Ernie will be deeply missed but forever remembered by his family, friends, and the communities he cherished

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, July 22 at Mesa Christian Fellowship at 28726 US-50 BUS, Pueblo, CO 81006.
