Mr. Hubert Lee “Hubie” Dungan, 79, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025, in Colorado Springs, Colorado with his wife of 53 years at his side. Born on May 31, 1945, in Amarillo, Texas, Hubert lived a life marked by boundless creativity, deep devotion to his family and faith, and an infectious sense of humor that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.  His early years were spent in Pueblo County and Penrose Colorado; he later lived and retired in Colorado Springs.

A graduate of Florence High School’s Class of 1963, Hubert’s life journey was as diverse and dynamic as the man himself. He began his working life at the Steel Mill as well as owning an autobody shop in Florence.  He loved to fish and hunt with his children, grandchildren and friends.  His love for the outdoors led him to guide horseback tours through Phantom Canyon and hunting excursions across Colorado’s mountainous terrain. A man of many talents and passions, he also rode motorcycles professionally for Kawasaki—an endeavor that reflected both his adventurous spirit and fearless determination.

Hubert was a master craftsman whose imagination knew no bounds. He trained to be and worked as both a Master Carpenter and a General Contractor.  Whether building something from scratch or repairing what others deemed beyond hope, he had an uncanny ability to bring ideas to life with his hands and heart. His skills were not only practical but deeply generous; one of his most cherished contributions was fabricating and placing a cross atop Central United Methodist Church—a place where he worshipped faithfully and served with unwavering devotion.

His faith was the cornerstone of his life. As a devoted member of Central United Methodist Church, Hubert lived out his beliefs through service, generosity, and love for others. He believed in putting God and family first—a principle that guided every aspect of his life.

Hubert’s greatest joy came from the people around him. He shared a loving marriage with Edna Marie (Joseph) Dungan, whose partnership brought strength and warmth to their family. Together they raised two children: daughter Brenda Johnson and her husband Craig Johnson; and son Robert Dungan and his wife Danielle (Bogner) Dungan. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren: Keegan Dungan, Kiana Dungan, Nik Johnson, Reagan Johnson, and Hannah Johnson.

He is also remembered fondly by his brother Nelson Dungan and sister-in-law Christine (Horsley) Dungan; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews—and countless friends who became family over the years.

Hubert was preceded in death by his parents Jess Dungan and Ethel (Hines) Dungan; sister Dora (Dungan) Wiggins; brother-in-law Don Wiggins; mother-in-law Mariam (Murad) Joseph; and father-in-law Joe Joseph.

Known affectionately as the ultimate “jokester,” Hubert had a gift for laughter that brightened every room he entered. His playful teasing was always delivered with love—and often followed by a twinkle in his eye that made it impossible not to smile in return. Children gravitated toward him instinctively; animals trusted him implicitly. To know Hubert was to be welcomed into a circle of warmth where everyone was considered family.

Though words can scarcely capture the full measure of such an extraordinary man, those who knew Hubert will carry forward memories filled with laughter, love, faith—and the enduring example of a life well lived.

May his memory bring comfort to all who were blessed to know him.
