Charlotte P. “Cherry” Lessig, 82, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
A proud native Coloradan, Cherry was born on August 15, 1943, in New Castle, Colorado, to the late Willma Olive Stewart and Lee Roy “Shortie” Clutter. She made Colorado Springs her home in 1977 and remained deeply connected to the community throughout her life.
Cherry devoted much of her professional life to public service. She worked as an Internal Revenue Service auditor after serving as a Contract Specialist for Air Force Space Command at Peterson Air Force Base. She was a member of the National Contract Management Association and earned her degree from Regis College in Colorado Springs in 1990. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Above all else, Cherry’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother to Brian Lessig, Lisa Epp – husband Troy. She was a proud grandmother to Brian Lessig Jr. – wife April, Jenn Woods – husband Jason, Tyler Epp, and Tanner Epp, and a loving great-grandmother to Tyli, Isley, Kaylee, Everett, and Travis. She is survived by her sisters, Loretta Schevikhoven and Nancy Wade.
Cherry will be remembered as a beautiful and strong woman of faith whose generosity knew no bounds. Family, friends, and neighbors were always welcomed into her home, and no one ever left hungry or empty-handed. Her kitchen was the heart of every family gathering, where traditions uniquely her own were carried on in the food she prepared with much love. She never relied on recipes, leaving behind family favorites that will attempt to be imitated at best.
Cherry had an unwavering commitment to her family. Whether celebrating life’s greatest joys or standing beside them through its deepest hardships, she was a constant source of love, strength, and support.
She delighted in preserving family history through photography, rarely missing an opportunity to capture special moments. Her treasured collection of photographs provided countless opportunities to share stories of her childhood and the lives of those she loved.
Cherry also found joy in creating beauty. Her vegetable and flower gardens were both abundant and meticulously cared for. She brought joy in the form of music while playing the piano for her fellow residents. The latch hook creations and embroidered gifts she made by hand will remain treasured keepsakes.
Blessed with a warm heart and magnetic personality, Cherry made friends wherever she went. She was a devoted neighbor, a loyal friend, and truly a stranger to no one.
In accordance with her lifelong wish, Cherry will be laid to rest in Glenwood Springs beside her beloved father, Lee Roy “Shortie” Clutter, whose love remained at the center of her heart throughout her life.
Respecting Cherry’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. Those who wish to honor her memory are invited to donate to First United Methodist Church, 420 N Nevada Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
Cherry’s legacy of faith, generosity, unwavering love for family, and joyful hospitality will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
