Matthew Lose passed away on March 7, 2026, just weeks before his 46th birthday. He was born on April 3, 1980, in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Matthew was a beloved son and brother who will be remembered for his kind heart, quick wit, and ability to easily make friends wherever he went. He had a wonderful sense of humor and brought laughter to those around him.

Growing up, Matthew loved spending time outdoors. Camping and fishing were two of his greatest passions, especially the cherished memories he made with his grandparents, Jim and Dorothy Hess. Those moments in nature remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Matthew faced many challenges and struggled with addiction for much of his life. Despite the difficulties he encountered, Matthew never stopped trying to find sobriety. His determination and the effort he put toward recovery reflected a strength that those who loved him will always remember.

He is survived by his mother, Patricia Lose; his father, James Lose, Sr.; his older brother, James Lose Jr.; his older sister, Denise Durbin; and many other family members and loved ones who will miss him dearly.

His brother James shared, “My brother, my friend, my fishing buddy. I love you and miss you.” His father added, “I love you, my son, and will always miss you.”

An informal gathering and memorial will be held this summer in Snowy Range, WY, near one of Matthew’s favorite camping and fishing spots, where his ashes will be scattered. Additional details will be shared closer to the summer.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Matthew’s memory to Shatterproof (a non-profit charity that works nationwide to transform addiction care, end stigma, and advance prevention, treatment, and recovery) at

or to Springs Rescue Mission at

Matthew will be remembered for his humor, his love of the outdoors, and the lasting impact he had on those who knew and loved him.
