Dorothy Nauyok Cain
Dorothy Ann Cain (nee Nauyok), age 88, formerly of Bethalto, Illinois, died Sunday, October 1, 2023 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She graduated in 1953 from Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto, Illinois. This Homecoming Queen married the Captain of the Football Team and her high school sweetheart Bill, served her community as a Boy Scout Den Mother, served as school room mother, loved to make personalized cookies and birthday cakes for parties, census taker, Avon Lady, and was a retired real estate agent for RE/MAX Properties Colorado Springs. Dorothy and Bill Cain established Cain & Cain Real Estate in Bethalto in 1976, then when their youngest graduated from high school, they moved to Colorado Springs where they always loved to vacation. They initially worked for Walker & Company Real Estate. Dorothy and Bill were members of the First United Methodist Church Downtown since 1982, meeting lifelong friends from this community through participation in the Chancel Choir, plays and musicals, Sunday School classes, various church committees through the years, and Dorothy enjoyed serving at Prairie Campus. She spent several seasons as a costumed historical interpreter at Rock Ledge Ranch.
Dorothy and Bill enjoyed traveling, many family vacations to National Parks and the Florida Keys, and Dorothy continued to travel after Bill’s death, even in recent years taking multiple journeys abroad to visit other parts of the world.
Dorothy was born December 30, 1934, at home in Madison County, Illinois, the daughter of the late Michael and Alma (Ennulat) Nauyok. Her father Mike, a coal miner and tavern owner, was an immigrant from Lithuania and her mother Alma was first generation born in the United States of parents who had immigrated from Lithuania. Besides her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years – Carl William (Bill) Cain Jr. in 2008, whom she married September 5, 1954; one brother George Nauyok; and one sister Jean Nauyok Adair Frillman.
Mrs. Cain is survived by four children – Bret Cain and wife Cindy (Ruskiewicz) of O’Fallon, Illinois; Scott Cain and wife Julie Czech of Buena Vista, Colorado; Craig Cain and wife Nadine (Morris) of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Carla (Cain) Wiegers and husband Steve Wiegers of Lansing, Kansas; seven grandchildren – Douglas Cain of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Julie (Cain) Hamby and husband Jon Hamby of Edwardsville, Illinois; Toby Cain of Washington DC, and Carter Cain of Decorah, Iowa, and Parker Cain of Buena Vista, Colorado; 2d Lt Leah Wiegers of Phoenix, Arizona and Alyssa Wiegers of Chicago, Illinois; two great grandchildren – Elliot Hamby and Sienna Hamby; one brother-in-law Gary Cain and wife Karen (Thompson) of Worden, Illinois; numerous nieces and nephews and their spouses who fondly recall “Aunt Dorothy.” Her grandkids knew her as “Grandma Dot.” Additionally, Dorothy is survived by many loving friends of the Colorado Springs community, valued relationships that she established living near the mountains for over 40 years. In the last few years, she was delighted to host Air Force Academy cadets at her home for Sunday lunches, as her granddaughter attended USAFA.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 4, reception following, at the First United Methodist Church Downtown, 420 North Nevada Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903. Reverend Patty Walker will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that, if so led, memorial contributions be made to First Company Theater at First United Methodist Church. Dorothy will join Bill at rest in the First United Methodist Church columbarium reflection garden.
