1978~2018

Jay (Jay Jay) Singh 39, Of Colorado Springs, CO, passed away on August 10, in his home surrounded by loved ones, after a year and a half long , courageous battle with  stomach cancer, just shy of his 40th birthday. He is survived by his loving parents Toni & Ramen Singh, sons Cameron & Caden, sister Nina Abney, her husband Shawn & kids Lexie, Morgan, & Hayden, Cousin (sister) Heather Shelton, her husband & Jay’s best friend Ryan De Castro, their son Max, his fiance Dewi Johnson & his loyal dog Mako.

Jay was born on August 29, 1978 in Huntsville, AL. He & his parents permanently moved to Palm Harbor, FL when he was small. Nina & Heather would eventually join them in a few years. The pride & joy of his Mom & Dad, he was an adorably rambunctious, happy little boy who was always laughing & up to mischief.

Nina loved her little brother & was always protective of him even when he was grown. He was so happy to have a big sister.  When she returned to Indiana & married her husband Shawn Abney they had three children, Morgan, Lexie and Hayden. He was the proudest Uncle & loved to spend time taking them around with him everywhere.

Heather came to live with the family when she & Jay were in 4th grade.  Raised as siblings, she & Jay, only 10 months apart, were inseparable, “since day one” they’d say. The phrase became their motto & as adults it became simply “Day 1.” They said it to express loyalty to each other & to honor their bond since childhood.  They loved fishing with their Grampy who taught them everything about the ocean. They grew up loving the water, especially the ocean. Throughout their youth they loved boating, swimming, riding his jet skis, crabbing and on lazy days throwing the cast net out or just pier fishing. Jay was an amazing swimmer and as a teenager had become a champion in the pool. He won countless matches and represented his school, Admiral Farragut in countless meets all over Florida. It was a good life. He made the family proud and was very dedicated to his sport.

Jay had two sons, Cameron & Caden with their mother Jessica. They were his heart & soul. He loved them more than anything else in this world right from the second they were born. Their vacations to Colorado were the best times for Jay & all year he couldn’t wait for them to get here. It was hard for him to be so far away from them but he was so proud of the young men they were becoming. They went on family trips around Colorado & he loved to show them how beautiful Colorado was. The boys loved him so much & he loved them even more.

Jay’s best friend Ryan De Castro married Heather, & they had a son named Max. They moved out to Colorado in 2014. In less than a year Jay moved out to start fresh after serious heart issues caused him to have heart surgery to place his aortic heart valve. He successfully fought for his life more than once & overcame countless obstacles. He loved Colorado and was able to grow into his best self here. He became our most loyal and trusted partner ever. We depended on him and he never let us down. Together we had a nice little family especially when his boys would visit.

Heather’s best friend Dewi Johnson moved from Singapore to Colorado Springs in 2016 & even though they knew each other yrs ago she & Jay hit it off & soon moved in together. They were absolutely devoted to each other & eventually became engaged. Dewi loved & cared for him from the very beginning of their relationship & never left his side the entire time he was ill. She always put his needs first & wanted only to make sure he was cared for, loved & listened to. They loved each other deeply & our family will be forever grateful for her strength in caring for Jay & the unwavering & absolute love she gave him. She loves his boys too & made sure they always had whatever they needed when they were here. It made him so happy to know that his boys love her & she loves them.

Jay was a good person who dealt with many personal struggles but he overcame them all to become an amazing man. Unfortunately this battle wasn’t one he couldn’t win, though he fought everyday to the very end. He had a good life when he was here and left behind a proud family and so many friends. He was able to see much of the world traveling with his parents and experienced  as much as he could in his short life. He worked very hard to better himself and did. His time in Colorado gave him the opportunity to start over. He was able to spend his time working at what he always loved and he really did become great at what he did. He found fulfillment and happiness in his devotion & love for Dewi & her love for him. Heather, Ryan, Dewi & Jay were a solid unit and little Max thought his Uncle Jay was the strongest guy in the whole world. Most of all he was so happy to be able to make good and lasting memories with his sons Cameron & Caden. The family vacations & adventures we went on together were so important to him. He wanted his boys to see that he had changed his life for them and wanted to give them as many new and happy memories he could. It was hard for him knowing he was going to leave us all but he was proud of the life he made, proud of the man he had become, and beyond proud of his family, especially his boys. We will miss him forever…
